The Palm Jumeirah – District Cooling Plant

“The Eighth Wonder of The World”.
The Palm Islands, also referred to as The Palm Dubai and The Palms, are the world’s three largest man-made islands, which are being built on the coast of the emirate of Dubai, in the U.A.E. The two Dubai islands, The Palm Jumeirah and The Palm Jebel Ali, will be built in the shape of date palm trees and consist of a trunk; a crown with 17 fronds; and a surrounding crescent island – the back of which forms the breakwater. Collectively, the islands will support more than 60 luxury hotels, 4000 exclusive residential villas , 1000 unique water homes, 5000 shoreline apartments, marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities, health spas, cinemas and various dive site.

The district cooling company – Palm District Cooling signed a landmark contract worth AED 191 million with Shinryo Corporation after a comprehensive review of a number of proposals and was based on the requirement to procure the most efficient and cost solution. The contract’s mandate is construction of two chiller plants that will provide 49,000 tons of cooling for the second phase of the Palm Jumeirah development. The plants will consist of large centrifugal chillers -- widely recognized as the most energy-efficient means of providing cooling for large-scale developments. With 12 large compressor modules, 10 having a capacity 4500 TR (refrigeration tons) each, the facility will require approx 44 MW of electrical power at peak load conditions during the summer, approximately 50% of the electrical power required for conventional cooling systems

Truwater is proud to be associated with this awe inspiring man made creation of all time . Methodical planning and exhaustive feasibility studies was carried out prior to the supply the 11-cells, FRP Pultruded Structure, Field Erected Counterflow Cooling Towers to cool a total of 65,000 heat rejection tons of condensing water. The cooling towers are designed to meet the most stringent specification such as the very demanding conditions of sea water environment, space constraint and low noise operation. In addition, the tower structures are constructed with very durable and corrosion resistant FRP Pultruded material with the fasteners & all metal parts in SS316. Major components are sourced from the best available in the industry such as extra low noise high efficiency FRP fan, high performance fill and very low water loss drift eliminator to optimize the energy and water conservation.
